About Ikedo

A place to feel at home.

Ikedo means Mimi’s House in Japanese. That’s not just a name — it’s the reason we exist.
ikedobanner tagline

At Ikedo Japanese Eatery, every dish is created with one purpose: to bring people together through the comforting flavors of Japan.

Ikedo was founded by Mimi Chi, a local entrepreneur, mother, and passionate host who believed that some of life’s best memories are made around the dinner table. Inspired by years of welcoming friends and family into her home with homemade Japanese meals, Mimi dreamed of creating a restaurant where everyone could experience that same warmth, comfort, and connection.

The name Ikedo translates to “Mimi’s House” — a reflection of our belief that great food matters, but great company matters even more.

Whether you’re sharing ramen with friends, enjoying sushi with family, or stopping in for a quick comforting meal after a long day, Ikedo is meant to feel like home.

THE STANDARD

Why Ikedo Japanese Eatery?

We treat our guests like family, and we hold the food to the same standard.

Broth that runs twelve hours. Fish that comes in fresh. Rice bowls built the way you asked for them, not the way it’s easier to make them.

Nothing leaves the kitchen we wouldn’t put in front of our own table.

THE ORIGIN

How did Ikedo begin?

For years, Mimi brought family and friends together over platters of sushi, steaming bowls of ramen, crispy tempura, and homemade Japanese comfort dishes.

She opened the first Ikedo in Port Washington — the same town where she built her family and roots. What started as a personal passion became a place the neighborhood could gather.

THE ROOM

What is Ikedo like?

Lively, welcoming, and built for gathering. The energy of a modern Japanese eatery with the warmth of a family dining table.

Casual lunch, cozy dinner, family night, or takeout on the way home. Comfort isn’t only in the food. It’s in the room.

Long Island's first handroll bar

You sit at the counter. The chef hands you the roll. You eat it right there — nori still crisp, rice still warm. That’s the whole point of a handroll. It has a shelf life of about thirty seconds.

You won’t find this in Port Washington. It’s the reason to make the drive.
THE SLOGAN

What does "Crafting True Japanese Comfort" mean?

Comfort food looks different for everyone. That’s why the menu moves.

Build a poke bowl exactly how you want it. Pair ramen with gyoza. Add a boba. Order the donburi and split the yakitori. You’re not picking from a set menu. You’re putting together the meal you came in for.

THE FOOD

How is the food at Ikedo?

Fresh, high-quality ingredients from trusted Japanese suppliers wherever we can get them.

Ramen and sushi. Rice bowls, karaage, tempura, street snacks, and desserts pulled from Japan’s home kitchens and festivals.

Every dish prepared with care, quality, and Japanese hospitality.
